''..drawn in 2001 by Adam Zyglis '04 upon Don's retirement''

Dr. Donald L. Tollefson, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, died from injuries he received when he was hit by a car while walking near his home. Dr. Tollefson founded the Psychology Department at Canisius in 1966 and was its chair for many years. After retiring, he freely gave of his time and talents to many charitable causes. His energy, enthusiasm, and thoughtfulness impacted both fellow faculty and students through many years of service, and we will miss him greatly.

''The Faculty Senate of Canisius College sends its deepest condolences to the many friends, colleagues, and former students of Professor Donald Tollefson, founding chairperson of the Psychology Department of Canisius College.

Teacher, scholar, advisor, administrator, and friend, Dr. Tollefson

We will miss Dr. Tollefson's s energetic presence and, most of all, his gentle wisdom.

May the Lord grant this man of deep faith and great wisdom eternal rest.''

Eulogies were given at the funeral Mass by Mr. Norman Paolini, one of Don's first students at Canisius and his closest friend, and Dr. Sherry Kermis, a colleague and close friend.

It is hard to capture a man of Don's energy and convictions in words. One way is to have him do it, through the cartoons and quotations he left behind tacked to his office door. Each of the following highlights a facet of his character and depth.

Don's former students will remember many an exam where he included a cartoon at the beginning to lighten the mood. Here are two that we found in the files. They are pretty representative of his sense of humor.
