==Below are links to the practicum log pages of students who are either working on or have completed a practicum in Clinical/Counseling Psychology under Dr. Neva Sanders.==
BethOchal – Montgomery Transitional Services, Inc. Children & Youth Program (C&Y) in Amsterdam, NY: She worked there in the summers of 2005 and 2006. While there she worked with emotionally disturbed and mentally ill youth ages 12-18. She transported the clients to their therapy sessions (where she was often times invited to sit in on the sessions), interacted with them, and was asked to report on their progress. While there she has been on-hand during certain occasions when residents have required emergency transportation for a psychological evaluation at the emergency room.
BrandonFarrugiaClinicalPracticum - Baker Victory Services in Lackawanna, NY: During his time there he worked in the preventive services department where he shadowed the caseworkers around during their daily activities. The goal of this department is to prevent children in an assigned family from entering foster care. He went through the two-day training session in domestic violence for all of the employees and followed several of them as they went through their daily rounds. They helped various families resolve family disputes and aided the parents in making sure that their children were properly taken care of.
CaraBrewer – Compeer of Greater Buffalo in Buffalo, NY: She has been working there since October 2005. She was hired as a ‘skillbuilder,’ meaning that she is required to see each child assigned to her for about 3-4 hours per week and as their mentor help them increase their skills in certain areas. After each visit, she is required to write up progress notes and hand them in to her supervisor at the end of each month. The children who she was matched with are part of the intensive mentorship program, which means that their symptoms may be more severe than those in the volunteer program. She highly recommends Compeer for anyone wishing to work with children or adults with mental illness.
EmilyKrezmienClinicalPracticum - BOCES classroom: She worked there over the summer of 2006 with their summer school program. Her position was as a classroom aide. While there she helped out in the classroom with six boys diagnosed with autism. She helps the students with their assignments during class and interacts with them daily during her working hours.
EmilyParobekPracticum – Buffalo Psychiatric Center: She has been working there since September 2006. She works under her supervisor, Dr. Messer, in the BRITE program (Behavioral Rehabilitation and Interpersonal Treatment Environment). She observes and interacts with the patients there whose illnesses are various stages of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, and dementia.
JacquelineLoncto – Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled: She began her internship there in May 2006. While there she has worked closely with a behavioral technician by shadowing her during her daily activities. These activities consisted of visiting several houses which are known as Individualize Residential Alternative houses, where the consumers reside and are looked after by a team of people form the agency.
JaclynOstroski – Jamestown Pediatrics: May to July 2006: During her time there she worked with ADHD/ ADD children. She shadowed a nurse with a specialty in counseling during her daily activities. While there she observed most of the meetings with the children and their parents.
JacquelineMorris – Compeer West: She began working there at the end of September 2006. Since starting there she has been mentoring two individuals by spending time with them and doing activities which they both find enjoyable.
JulieSchmidtClinicalPracticum – Buffalo Psychiatric Center, Fall 2006 to Spring 2007.
KatieShaw - Lancaster Central School District "Special Friends" Program: She has been working there since August 2006 and is a child associate/ mentor. While working there, she interacts with about eight children who have some kind of problem going on at home, have a learning disorder, or have ADHD. At the Lancaster Elementary School, she pulls the kids out of their classes and ‘hangs out’ with them for about a half hour.
KristenHamm – Syracuse Behavioral Center: She did her practicum there over the summer of 2006 starting in May. While there she worked with and shadowed one of the counselors in the outpatient center under a program called High Intensity Out-Patient Program. At the area in which she worked, those who were enrolled in the center were mandated to be there by higher authority and all of the clients had some sort of substance abuse problem.
KristinGeliaPracticum – Buffalo Crisis services for phone counselors: While there she handled various phone calls and earned the certification to be a crisis phone counselor by the American Association of Suicidology. During her time there she referred various calls to their proper places and dealt with several suicidal calls.
MarthaBaczkowski – People Inc.: She worked at People Inc. over the summer of 2006 beginning in May. During her internship there, she worked mostly in the office filling out paperwork and preparing proposal options for clients concerning organizations which would be able to help meet their needs. She also went along on several home visits where she met the clients who she was helping.
MelissaWegstPracticum – Buffalo Psychiatric Center: She began working there January 2007. During her time there she is working under Dr. Messer, who is in charge of the BRITE (Behavioral Rehabilitation and Interpersonal Treatment Environment) unit.
SaharEsfahaniPracticum – People Inc.: She worked there from March to May. She was placed to work with adolescents in the after-school program at Amherst High School. During her time there she worked with several students who were mentally retarded, blind, and possibly had Down syndrome.
StaceyJacksonPracticum – Buffalo Psychiatric Center: She began her practicum there in June and ended in August. During her time there she worked at the Strozzi treatment mall. This mall consists of patients with limited privileges who need to be in a structured environment; these patients are there for rehab and recovery. While there she worked with counselors, therapists, and a neuropsychologist as well as interacted with the patients whose ages ranged from young adult to senior citizen.
